Brent Attwell

R.P.F - Co-Owner/Forester

Brent Attwell

          Brent graduated from Lakehead University in 1998 with a Bachelor's Degree in Forest Management. He spent his summers during school working for the Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority during this period and started his tree planting/forestry career here. He became self-employed in 1999, as a private land forestry consultant (Regen Forestry), carrying out many afforestation and management plan contracts for Conservation Authorities and the CFS across Ontario until becoming a PDA with Forests Ontario in 2005. Brent attained his R.P.F in 2002 when he relocated to Sault Ste. Marie on account of his wonderful wife Barb and spent 10 years teaching at Sault College in the Forestry and Natural Environmental Technician Programs. He is a Managed Forest Plan Approver and a certified tree marker. Brent is a board member for the OWA-Algoma Chapter and a member of the LCC for the Algoma Forest. In 2019 he co-formed REGEN Natural Resources Ltd which carries out private and crown land silvicultural activities to restore pre-colonization and old growth forests.

Peetrylia Zammit

          Peeetrylia started her career in forestry as a heavy equipment operator. Working with local logging companies harvesting in the Algoma hardwoods using a cable skidder and chainsaw. She spent 5 years logging, implementing road layout, health and safety supervisor and operations supervisor for various crews. During this time, she became acquainted with several foresters along the way, which sparked her interest in pursuing Forestry Management. Peetrylia graduated from Sault College in 2017 with a Forestry Conservation Technicians Diploma. Peetrylia began her work in Forest Management with Brent Attwell - Region Forestry, quickly. obtaining hands-on knowledge with all thing's forestry, becoming a certified tree marker and foremen of the operational crews. At the start of 2019, REGEN Natural Resources Ltd. was co-formed between Brent and Peetrylia, which continues to carry out private and crown land silvicultural activities varying from crop tree release, tree marking, seed orchard management, chaga collection, and tree planting. Peetrylia is also a member of the OWA-Algoma Chapter. Peetrylia plans to continue building her portfolio in sustainable silvicultural activities and keeping the balance between the give and take of the natural environment and the demands of our culture.

Matthew Dreifelds

Forestry Technician - Operations Project Foremen 

Matt Dreifelds

​​          After a two-year stint at the University of Guelph for Accounting in 2009, Matt realized his true passions drew him to the natural environment. He began by tree planting for a summer which lasted for next 9 consecutive summers, putting over 500,000 trees in the ground. He grew as a planting crew boss, logistics manager, quality assessor and first aid attendant in his portfolio and added to his resume by dabbling in forest fire fighting, forest surveying and slash burning. Returning to academics in 2016-2018, graduating from Sault College with distinction as a Forest Conservation Technician and receiving the Canadian Institute of Forestry Gold Medal. He then went on to Fleming College in 2019 to complete a program in Arboriculture. He spent the next 3 years as a Tree Climbing Crew Leader and gained 6000 hours of experience to successfully pass the International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist Credential. With a plethora of knowledge and experience in both rural and urban forests, Matt joined Regen Natural Resources in 2022 to work as a tree planter, tree marker, chaga harvester and arborist. He plans to continue serving the Algoma forests to the best of his abilities in arguably the most important ecosystem on the planet.

Rachel Parkes

          Rachel is a Forestry and Fish/Wildlife Conservation Technician graduate from Sault College and has obtained her Tree Marking certification. She relocated from southern Ontario in 2020 to attend Sault College and explore her interest for the natural environment, pursuing her draw to the outdoors. Along the way she fell in love with Sault and its ever-abundant surrounding forest and nature. She started working for Regen Natural Resources in 2023 eager to gain hands on experience and put her natural environment knowledge to the test. Rachel during this time has unearthed her passion for all things nature, especially her fondness for birds and has gained an extensive knowledge in identification of them by sight and song. With this being on of her passions outside of work she can often be found bird watching while hiking through the beautiful hardwood forests of Algoma!
